$2,500 Reward To Find Pennsylvania Cat Torturer

Hanover, PA (February 3, 2016) – In Defense of Animals has today announced a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the deadly torture of a four year old cat found in Hanover, Pennsylvania. New leads are urgently needed to bring the perpetrators to justice after the horrific incident.

Hanover catThe tiger-calico colored cat was found wandering in the area of Ruth Avenue on Wednesday, December 30, not far from the intersection of Broadway, with a wire tightly twisted around her neck. An examination later revealed she had a severely fractured skull, from repeated blows to the head with a hammer or similar object. Her injuries were so severe that she had to be euthanized.

Littlestown resident Christina Carroll took her to the Penn Township Fire Department to cut the tightly-wound wire, and then to the Heavenly Paws Animal Shelter in Hanover for emergency treatment. Carroll named the cat Faith.

“I just want justice to be done for her,” Carroll said. “I want someone who has seen something or heard something to come forward.”

Retired veterinarian and Founder of In Defense of Animals Dr. Elliot M. Katz said, “People who carry out sadistic crimes like these are a danger to the entire community. A person who abuses an animal is the same person who will abuse a child, a spouse, a significant other, or an elderly family member. That is why In Defense of Animals has posted a $2500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals. It is our responsibility as animal guardians to set an example for anyone who would ever consider being so cruel to these gentle, loving beings. The people and animals of Hanover, PA, must be protected, and justice must be served.”

York County SPCA carried out an autopsy on Faith. They believe that whoever is responsible for torturing Faith could be charged with misdemeanor animal abuse.

“We thank In Defense of Animals for offering this reward and we are hopeful that it will encourage people with information to come forward,” said Executive Director of York County SPCA, Melissa Smith. “Animal cruelty is a crime against society and must be treated with the same significance as violence to humans. We urge our community in York County to take this situation very seriously and to help bring justice for poor Faith who endured such horrendous treatment.”

In Defense of Animals President Dr Marilyn Kroplick said “It is vital that strong laws are in place and used, in order to protect animals and deter criminals from moving on to other victims.”

Anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who viciously mistreated and caused the death of Faith is urged to call or contact Humane Society Police Officer Nicole Lawrence at (717) 764 6109 ext.127.
