8 Pups & Mom Rescued From "Free Home" Fate

Friend of In Defense of Animals’ Hope Animal Sanctuary,  Deborah Young, saw a post on social media which claimed that a female dog had shown up at someone’s home and had eight puppies under the house.  Deborah called our Operations Manager, Sharon Stone, and let her know that all eight four- week- old tiny Dachshund mix puppies were about to be given away “free to a good homes” at too young of age and without any proper screening of adopters.

Deborah made arrangements to get the puppies to her home and arranged a meeting with Sharon for the next day.  Soon Mom, now named Lucy, and her puppies were safe at our Hope Animal Sanctuary.  Lucy was a wonderful mother and watched over her pups carefully.  Barely 12 pounds herself, she had managed to feed all her puppies and keep them plump and healthy.  When the pups were a little over 6 weeks old, Lucy weaned them and they began eating full time on their own!

All of Lucy’s babies have since been adopted. Please donate to In Defense of Animals and help us help more families just like Lucy and her puppies!
