Activists Uncover Horrifying Deer Killings in British Columbia

Take Action to End the Killing

Since the beginning of December, 2015 a deer killing plan has been underway in Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada under the not-so-watchful-eye of the City of Cranbrook and the British Columbia Government. Now, new footage has been released by our friends and fellow animal activists at the British Columbia Deer Protection Society which exposes cruel deer capture and killing methods which are in direct violation of the policies outlined in the deer killing permit. This video, which is condensed from lots of compiled video footage, is being put forward in order to end the senseless slaughter.

The permit which the Minister has granted states: “Two (2) contractors will quickly collapse each Clover trap with the deer inside and dispatch the animal immediately and humanely with a bolt gun; Contractors promptly re-establish the trap from its collapsed state, open the gate and move the deer into a plastic sled for transfer to a waiting vehicle; deer must not be visible while in the vehicle.”

Collected video evidence of three occasions shows that three terrified deer in two instances (two fawn in one trap, and a doe in another trap) were trapped for hours before the contractors even attended to the traps. In the third instance, this video shows that the contractors used the bolt gun twice on the same fawn, not once, which is neither “immediate” nor “humane” (as if this death could be described either way, even if following protocol). Images of this baby deer’s legs still kicking as the fawn is dragged away, show that some deer are still alive and suffering after being struck by captive bolts to their heads without even the minor comfort of a plastic sled (as also required by the permit).
