From Agony to Healing

While the dedicated volunteers of IDA India were catching dogs for its spay/neuter program in the village of Ghanosli recently, they stumbled upon this poor dog in severe pain.

The staff from the our main center of Turbhe is trained to keep a sharp look out for any animal in distress as the vans move around the Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Panvel areas.

Judging from the big wound which was badly infected, it appeared this unfortunate dog seemed to have gotten into a bad dog fight. He was immediately rescued and brought back to the center, where almost a liter of putrefied pus was drained. After that, he was given medications and also fluids and nutrients, since he was badly dehydrated and malnourished. He could not open his mouth and therefore had not been able to eat or drink anything for an unknown amount of time. At the time, the veterinarian on duty said that the suffering dog was about an hour away from death when he got to the center.

Now, almost a month later, he is still at our center doing much better and also drinking and eating on his own. He has been very weak throughout the last month, and is now showing some signs of stirring and having some interest in his surroundings. He will be released after he is perfectly fit and his wound is completely healed. If his weakness continues, he will stay with us as a shelter dog and then eventually will be sent to the Deonar Center where he can hopefully get sponsored through our Guardian Angel Program.
