No More Annual Deer Massacres

Tell Metroparks: Enough Bloodshed Already

Urban Deer Hall of Shame Welcomes Scott Zody, Director of the Ohio Division of Wildlife, Brian Zimmerman, the Executive Director of Cleveland Metroparks and Dr. Terry Robison, Chief of Natural Resources of Cleveland Metroparks.

17 years of failed mass deer slaughters and over 4,000 deer killed in Metroparks, Ohio and there is no hope in sight when it comes to progressive decision-making. While other states, cities and communities enter into the 21st century by investing in nonlethal and educational programs, the good ‘ol boys club of Ohio, always so dependent upon hunters’ approval, decides every year that urban deer, whether pregnant or not, whether fawn or adult—they all, and the more the better—need to die.

Thanks to kill orders coming from the ODNR (Ohio Division of Natural Resources), the outdated, primitive, reprehensible and merciless ritual of urban deer slaughter continues.

Between 1994 and 2004, Metroparks also used fertility control (porcine zona pellucida—PZP) to reduce deer reproduction in some of their parks, and it worked. In fact, it worked so well, that the state decided to … prohibit it!
