Australian Ag Gag Legislation Fought

Thank you Senator Lee Rhiannon, for standing with IDA and taking the voice of our international supporter base to the Australian Parliament this February 11.

The devious proposed amendment to the Australian Criminal Code, ironically titled the “Animal Protection Bill 2015″ is not an animal protection bill at all, and if passed, will force ag-gag restrictions across Australia on a national scale.

Investigations by animal activists and animal protection groups are virtually the only means of detecting animal cruelty within animal industries. Without the evidence that undercover video provides, the worst abuses committed by the animal agriculture industry would go unseen and unpunished.

We are grateful to the thousands of you who signed our petition and to Senator Lee Rhiannon for representing our collective voice. At In Defense of Animals, we will continue to fight ag-gag laws here in the U.S. and internationally, wherever they pose a threat to justice.
