Barcelona Will Shut Down Its Dolphinarium!

We have some great news this holiday season! Barcelona has decided to become a captivity-free city and is reportedly going to shut down its dolphinarium!

In October 2016, In Defense of Animals joined an international coalition of organizations along with thousands of individuals around the world in urging the city of Barcelona, Spain, to ban dolphin captivity and to retire four dolphins currently held at the aging and inappropriate facilities of the Barcelona Zoo. The organization Fundación para el Asesoramiento y Acción en Defensa de los Animales conducted the campaign, #AdéuDelfinari, that ultimately resulted in this huge win for dolphins. According to the organization, it will be working to explore sanctuary options for the dolphins at the closing dolphinarium.

In Defense of Animals applauds Mayor Ada Colau for making the decision to become a global leader in dolphin well-being, and the people of Barcelona for supporting an end to the cruelty inherent in dolphin captivity.
