A Big Victory for Bees

A Big Victory for Bees

Recent Court Rulings Show Promise for the Future of Banning Harmful Pesticides

Earlier this month, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit cancelled the approval of a neonicotinoid subclass group called Sulfoxaflor. The ruling of this case is a big victory for bees as the pesticide Sulfoxaflur has shown that exposure to less than a microgram of Sulfoxaflor affects the nervous system of bees, killing them slowly and painfully. Thanks to Earth Justice for the lawsuit!

As United States courts rarely cancel the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) approvals of pesticides, this case brings hope for future cases against deadly pesticides, which have already been approved by the EPA.

Find more information about the recent court rulings regarding Sulfoxaflor here.

In related news, we recently sent out and posted an alert urging you to tell the EPA to recall a new toxin called Bicyclopyrone (BCP). Since that alert, a formal notice of intent has been lodged to sue the EPA for approving BCP.

Thank you to the thousands of you who signed our alert to end the sales of neonicotinoids, as this ruling was a big victory for bees, and we hope for the same outcome with the BCP toxin! If you have not signed our BCP alert you can do so here.
