Boknal Days Are Quickly Approaching

The dog days of summer spell doom for South Korea’s dogs. It is during these days, presumably the hottest days of the year, that the dreaded Boknal Days take place. They are only weeks away.

The three main Boknal Days span July to August and are when the consumption of dog meat peaks throughout South Korea, prompted by the persistent myth that dog meat dishes increase one’s stamina in the heat and also increase male virility.

Thousands of dogs, previously enduring life on dog meat farms, will be crammed together into tiny cages and trucked, without food or water, to slaughter houses and markets. They will each witness other dogs being dragged from the cages to be killed by such cruel methods as hanging or electrocution. Each will then face a similar end. All this will be done merely to satisfy a human’s sensory pleasure. The cruelty must end.

IDA was on the ground for last year’s Boknal Days, and we are currently making plans for this year. The horrific “festivities” begin in just a few weeks and we need to be there. We need to expose and speak out against such barbaric cruelty, as well as support our fellow Korean activists and continue to push the tide in favor of these dogs.

Please help us in our fight.
