Student Choice Laws

In several states, schools must, by law, inform students of upcoming dissection activities, offer humane alternatives for those who want them, and ensure that students are not penalized for their choice.

Florida, California, Pennsylvania, New York, Rhode Island, Illinois, Virginia, Oregon, and New Jersey legally protect students who object to dissection; students may refuse to do so without penalty. Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, and New Mexico have passed resolutions to allow students dissection choice.
