Dear (Governor, Assemblymember, Senator),
I am writing to ask you to please support (AB ----), a bill that will dramatically improve the care and treatment of birds and animals sold in (your state here) pet stores. Substandard animal care—as well as abuse, neglect, and suffering—are commonplace in the retail animal industry. Unfortunately, current law is not only insufficient, but also often undermines and/or hinders efforts to protect innocent captive birds and animals who are suffering from abuse and negligence.
(AB ----) will strengthen (your state here) laws by providing specific standards that will apply to all pet stores that sell live animals, thereby raising animal care standards and providing the tools necessary for effective law enforcement. If passed into law, (AB ---) will help to dramatically curb the unnecessary pain and suffering of innocent animals.
