International Day for South Korean Dogs and Cats is
Next Week

Attend or organize an event and contact the South Korean consulate on July 25th

Want to help stop the brutal dog and cat meat trade in South Korea? Then join animal advocates around the world this Wednesday, July 25th for International Day for South Korean Dogs and Cats. IDA and Animal Freedom South Korea (AFK) have organized this global day or action against dog and cat meat consumption for the past three years. This year the campaign is also co-sponsored by South Korean animal protection groups CARE and KAAP. Groups in South Korea have already held events to protest the first of South Korea's "Bok days," the hottest time of the year, when dog meat consumption increases because some believe eating canines, who do not sweat, will keep them cool. A video of their protest shows activists sitting in cages like the animals killed for meat.

Protesting outside of the South Korean consulate or embassy nearest you is a great way to help pressure the South Korean government to stop turning a blind eye to the illegal dog and cat meat trade. While South Korea recently did pass animal welfare laws, the government has made no moves to shut down this grisly black market which is responsible for so much cruelty to companion animals. Please speak up for these voiceless victims this July 25th.

What You Can Do

1)  Attend an International Day for South Korean Dogs and Cats event in your city. Also see a photo slideshow of last year's events. 2) Organize a protest at the South Korean embassy or consulate nearest you on or around July 25. If you don't live in a city with an Embassy or Consulate, you can still organize a demonstration in a busy location with a lot of foot traffic. Register online and we'll add your event to our protest page and send you posters and leaflets.3) Call or fax the South Korean embassy or consulate nearest you on Wednesday, July 25th urging them to enforce existing laws against the sale of dog and cat meat. Get contact information for the consulate or embassy in your area.
