IDA's International Day of Action for Dogs and Cats in South Korea 2011

IDA's 7th annual International Day of Action for Dogs and Cats in South Korea was a rousing success! We had 40 cities around the world participating in events, ranging from protests and leafletings outside South Korean Embassies and Consulates to tabling to letter writing. We presented the South Korean Consulate in San Francisco with over 15,000 individually signed petitions from IDA members asking the South Korean Government to please strengthen the existing laws protecting dogs and cats and to end this terrible practice now.

Our Day of Action received extensive media coverage on TV, radio, and print media around the world. This year's event brought widespread attention to the plight of South Korean dogs tortured and killed for consumption. Check out the photos of our events across the U.S. and around the world.

Arizona

The Animal Advocates of Arizona met at the vegan Green Restaurant in Tempe, Ariz., where 35 attendees wrote 92 letters by hand to South Korean officials. Dozens more around the state of Arizona have also committed to sending letters to various South Korean officials. Wonderful job, Animal Advocates of Arizona!

INTERNATIONAL EVENTS
South Korea - CARE

Coexistence for Animal Rights on Earth, CARE, organized three anti-dog meat protests this summer at Moran Market, the most popular dog meat market in Korea. Using the phrase, "put yourself in my place." CARE presented short street theater performances showing the cruel methods of killing dogs for meat. Market goers were offered a free anti-dog meat t-shirt.

South Korea - KARA

Korean Animal Rights Advocates, KARA, commemorated the last of the three Bok days (dog-eating days) on August 13, with a striking blue bus bearing IDA's logo, and the slogan: "Tears of Boknal: Dogs are the same. There is no dog for meat," attracting attention everywhere it went. Activists made stops at Insadong, Myeong-dong, and Gangnam station to hand out leaflets.
