Canada Geese Massacred in NYC

End the Yearly Roundup and Killing of NYC Canada Geese

Every summer, Canada geese in New York City are savagely and unnecessarily killed by USDA Wildlife Services. Adult geese and their terrified goslings continue to be rounded up, roughly handled while shoved into turkey crates, and forced to endure stifling hot car or truck rides while exposed to high summer temperatures. Forcefully removed from their homes, Canada geese are sent to die at scream filled and nauseating slaughterhouses or crammed into suffocating gas chambers, each horrified animal experiencing a terrifying and savage death.

In 2009, the city of New York enacted a Canada goose removal policy purportedly to prevent collisions between airplanes and geese, labeling the birds, “a threat to air safety.” NYC and The Port Authority of NY & NJ contract with USDA Wildlife Services to kill animals labeled as safety threats, using taxpayer money to fund these yearly killings.

According to wildlife biologists and aviation experts, slaughtering Canada geese in NYC lacks long-term effectiveness, as other animals and or geese quickly fill the newly uninhabited areas.
