Cancel Logan City Greyhound Race Track

Cancel Logan City Greyhound Race Track

After much protest, Australian Racing Minister Bill Byrne has called for an immediate stop to the construction of a greyhound track in Logan City, South East Queensland, Australia, due to public uproar over the live baiting scandal as reported by ABC’s Four Corners, where small animals were filmed being tied to lures, dragged around tracks, and mauled by training greyhounds. The greyhound racing industry is under full investigation and the track will not be built until the investigation is complete which is projected to last at least three months.

This is good news for greyhounds, at least for now, but there is still a chance that once again industry interest will trump the interest of the greyhounds. While the sport is dying out, Australia is notorious for greyhound racing, and since the atrocities of illegal live baiting have come to light, the lack of concern that trainers and industry higher-ups have for the animals forced to participate in this sport has become even more apparent.

Track construction is postponed, not cancelled. So please contact Racing Minister Bill Byrne and ask that he take one step further and cancel the construction of the racetrack. Logan City Mayor, Pam Parker, is opposed to the track, the Logan City Council is opposed to the track, and the people are opposed to the track. Please, support greyhounds in opposing this track and help put their interests before those of the big industry.
