Celebrate Meatout!

March 12th, 2013 by Christy Griffin

Meatout is an annual international day of action which began in 1985 and is now the largest grassroots vegan outreach campaign in the world! In Defense of Animals (IDA) in collaboration with Farm Animal Rights Movement (FARM) and others utilize this day of action to encourage people to try veganism by organizing leafletings, tablings, or demonstrations. If you would like to organize your own event and live in the United States, please e-mail Christy to receive a package of our newly redesigned The Reason For Vegan leaflets. For those of you who live outside of the US, please download and print The Reason For Vegan leaflets.

Food is the vital center of our daily lives. The grocery store is stocked with attractive displays of conveniently packaged meat, milk, cheese, and egg products. The labels might even depict happy animals and green rolling hills, or include a story about the pleasant lives of farm animals. Yet the real stories are heartbreaking and filled with unimaginable cruelty.  When we learn more about what is really happening on factory farms, in slaughterhouses, and at “processing” plants, we find ourselves making very different food choices. We want to show people how great the vegan lifestyle can be for animals, for the environment, for our health, and for them! If you have any questions or require further assistance, please visit idausa.org.

Giving up meat is not hard to do. I have no desire to eat any meat after 5 months of not eating it.

I don’t eat meat and I like it that way.
