In Defense of Animals Offers $750 Reward in Two Animal Abandonment Cases

Grenada, Miss. (April 9, 2015) - In Defense of Animals (IDA), the international non-profit animal protection organization which operates Hope Animal Sanctuary (HAS) in Carroll County, Mississippi, has announced a $750 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for the abandonment of a group of puppies behind the Dollar General Store in Duck Hill, Mississippi and at the Highway 82 Dump in Montgomery County, Mississippi.

On March 23, Hope Animal Sanctuary staff were alerted to the abandonment of three five-to-six month old juvenile dogs at the Montgomery County dump on Highway 82, across from the County Barn. The sanctuary rescue team was able to rescue two of the pups. The third pup eluded rescue until April 1, when he was accidentally crushed to death by a vehicle entering the dump.

Also on April 1, HAS staff were contacted by the Dollar General store in Duck Hill. Six five-to-six week old pups had been abandoned behind the store. HAS rescuers responded to the plea for help. The pups were too young to be away from their mother and are in guarded condition.

In Defense of Animals has a standing reward offer of $750 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone abandoning a companion or “working” animal in the state of Mississippi.

“The cruel abandonment of animals plagues Mississippi communities. The truth is that abandonment is a crime of selfishness. Our team is weary of hearing people say how expensive it is to spay and neuter companion animals, but folks manage to get that pack of cigarettes, case of beer, up-to-date electronic toys, and whatever they set their minds on – just not if it’s for the animals they see as disposable,” said HAS Director Doll Stanley.

IDA-HAS points to the habits of a throwaway society that has little empathy for the suffering of these frightened animals. These abandoned animals’ odds of survival are diminished by heat or cold, dehydration, starvation, parasite infestation, attacks by dominant and predatory animals, and most certainly by the vehicles that speed down our roadways.

Anyone with information about these two animal abandonment cases is asked o please contact Hope Animal Sanctuary by calling or texting Director Doll Stanley 662-809-4483 or Operations Manager Sharon Stone 662-466-0906.
