Dog Killed in Death Oven

Dog Killed in Death Oven

Earlier this week, In Defense of Animals’ Hope Animal Sanctuary received a disturbing message. Sanctuary friend and supporter, Celina Hayward reported a metal dog box on the side of Nat G. Trout Road in Grenada, County, Mississippi with a dog inside. HAS staff were dispatched immediately and were prepared to recover the dog. What they weren’t prepared for is a scene too horrible to imagine.

The dog box was just by the roadway, with one door was partly open. Out of that door protruded the leg of a dead and decomposing dog. Heat indexes had been hovering around 100 degrees for several days prior. This poor dog likely barked, howled and cried for help, but no help came. We can barely begin to imagine the torture of being locked inside the sweltering heat of that metal death oven. We surmise that decomposition began before this dogs’ pitiful excuse for a guardian returned, which drove the vile human to dump the entire box, instead of just the body.

We do not know how long the dog was dead, nor could we even determine the sex of the dog due to the advanced decomposition. But we do know the dog was a pit bull, and that he or she had a thick leather collar and a heavy chain around the neck.

We filed a report with local law enforcement. Chances are slim that the perpetrator will be brought to justice this time, but we will not rest until cruelty like this is a thing of the past. .
