End China's Festival of Horrors!

End China's Festival of Horrors!

Every June, the city of Yulin, in China’s Guangxi province, hosts ‘The Summer Solstice Lychee Dog Meat Festival.’ This ‘festival,’ once seen as an opportunity to celebrate the longest day of the year and engage in the tradition of eating dogs and cats as a way to ward off evil and bring good health, is now being seen for what it is, a vicious, profit driven slaughter of innocent dogs, many of whom are stolen pets.

Tens of thousands of dogs are rounded up off the streets and stolen from homes, to be transported over long distances, in horrendous conditions, only to meet with a brutal death. They are held on display in small, overstuffed cages, starved and dehydrated until it is time to beat them and slit their throats. This is more often than not, done in front of the other dogs, as it is believed by many that the more terrified a dog is when killed, the tastier the flesh will be.
