Update: Live Animals Packed and Shipped to Russia for Slaughter

We have heard from IKEA … Keep the pressure on McDonald’s, Burger King, Pizza Hut, and Other Fast Food Chains.

Your voice has been heard, at least by IKEA, which contacted IDA on March 6, in response to the 6655 letters sent to them from our supporters, who have signed our alert. According to IKEA’s North America Communication Manager, “IKEA in Russia has purchased one poultry product from Miratorg” before deciding that Russia’s largest pork producer did not meet IKEA’s requirements.

We thank IKEA for severing ties with Miratorg as of February 20 and for confirming that “no products sold in IKEA’s U.S. stores contain horsemeat.” We have asked IKEA to request that Miratorg removes their name from the list of partners on their website, and we will keep you posted on IKEA’s response.

Now we want to hear an explanation from McDonald’s and other fast food chains about their potential involvement in 1) selling meat that may be contaminated with horse flesh to the U.S. public, and 2) coming from U.S. animals that were live-exported to Russia and slaughtered there or in other countries with minimal to non-existent animal protection laws.
