The 2nd annual World GO VEGAN Days celebration, sponsored by In Defense of Animals (IDA), is taking place this year from October 27th through 29th. This is an excellent opportunity for people who care about animals, the environment and their loved ones’ wellbeing to educate others about the vegan lifestyle as a compassionate, sustainable and healthy way of eating and living.
Eating vegan foods offers many significant advantages over consuming meat, dairy and eggs. For instance, plant-based meals are naturally cholesterol-free and generally lower in fat than those containing animal products. In addition, producing a plant-based diet requires far fewer resources and creates less pollution than raising animals for food. But for animal lovers, perhaps the most compelling reason for being vegan is that it prevents unnecessary suffering and death. Every person who goes vegan saves over 100 animals’ lives every year. Each of these animals is a living being who feels pain and wants to live as much as our beloved dogs and cats do. World GO VEGAN Days is a time for people to make this connection and become conscious of what—and who—they are eating, and that they can choose a non-violent alternative.
World GO VEGAN Days also celebrates the many benefits of being vegan. One of the most positive aspects is the amazing variety of delicious, healthy vegan foods. As part of World GO VEGAN Days, IDA promotes these culinary sensations by partnering with restaurants across the country to offer diners discounted meatless meals and specials. This makes World GO VEGAN Days an excellent opportunity to introduce family, friends and co-workers to the wonderful world of great-tasting plant-based foods while enjoying some yourself.
During World GO VEGAN Days, participating restaurants will again offer meat eaters half-price vegan meals when dining with a vegan paying full-price. Restaurants will also present World GO VEGAN Days Specials—delicious dishes made without meat, dairy, eggs or other animal products that highlight the versatility of plant-based foods, from vegetables and grains to mock meats and cheeses. Enjoying a vegan meal with family and friends in a pleasant atmosphere can be both a delightful dining experience and convincing first-hand proof that making compassionate choices also satisfies the taste buds.
So be sure to organize a restaurant outing between October 27th and 29th for World GO VEGAN Days. Just visit
www.idausa.org/vegandays/restaurant_specials.html to find participating restaurants in your area. You can also introduce even more people to the pleasures of veganism by encouraging restaurants in your area to offer discounted meals and specials during the three-day celebration. World GO VEGAN Days benefits restaurants by drawing new customers in for this special occasion and beyond. You can let them know that IDA will list their restaurant on our campaign website and encourage our members to patronize participating establishments. IDA will also send participating restaurants a World GO VEGAN Days promotional poster featuring vegan bodybuilder Kenneth G. Williams to display in their establishment.
