A Flood of Support Amidst a Scorching Aftermath

What started as a small shed fire in Lake County, California on September 12, 2015, turned into a raging fire that spread across the state, burning 76,000 acres, and leaving many animals abandoned, scorched and afraid for their lives.

When the smoke had cleared, horses, turkeys, dogs, pigs, cats, goats and many other animals were found roaming the streets, aimless and lost. But hope was in sight for these animals.

One of the few buildings that remained untouched by the fire was the Middleton Animal Hospital. The small intake hospital soon became filled to capacity with animals and the veterinarians and volunteers who wanted to do whatever they could to help them. The hospital quickly became a center for coordinating animal search, rescue, and treatment.

Once the animals started pouring into the hospital, efforts were made to link animals with their guardians by posting pictures on social media of the animals along with the location where they were found.

Thanks to all the hard workers who poured their support into helping the animals who were victims of the fire. We are so proud of you!
