Germany Becomes the First Country to Outlaw ‘Chick Shredding’ in the Egg Industry!
Christian Schmidt, Germany’s Agricultural Minister, has announced that “chick shredding” will be banned starting in 2017, making Germany the first country in the world to stop the barbaric practice.
Many people are shocked to learn that each year, millions upon millions of male baby chicks are shredded alive by the commercial egg industry. This happens regardless of whether eggs are produced in a free range system or from caged battery hens.
Why?
Because male chicks can’t produce eggs, and thus their lives are considered entirely worthless – a ‘’waste product’’ by the industry.
Similar to how baby calves who are killed by the dairy industry so their mother’s milk can be sold for human consumption, it is no more than a comforting myth that factory farmed or ‘’free range’’ animal products can be cruelty-free, whilst their lives are valued by a mere dollar sign.
Choose compassion, be brave and try #vegan. Don’t be an accomplice to chick shredding or any number of other horrific things done to animals for the sake of convenience.
