Greed over Grouses

Greed over Grouses

Late last month, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced that the greater sage grouse would not be listed as endangered. This announcement comes after years of deliberation on the subject with many feeling angered by the outcome. Supporters of the grouse believe that the decision was based on motives of greed, rather than that of conservation.

The greater sage grouse inhabits over 50 million acres of federal land, with much of the land being leased out for destructive activities such as mining and grazing. If the greater sage grouse had been listed as endangered, this would put many constraints on gaining permits for mining in areas where the bird may be found. The estimated financial deficit would be to the tune of billions of dollars if the grouse became listed as endangered.

Unfortunately the greed of money has won over the grouse.

We believe that the greater sage grouse deserves more of a fighting chance and should be listed as endangered!
