In Defense Of Animals Offers $500 Reward In Charleston Dog Shooting Case

Charleston, Miss. (April 1, 2013) – In Defense of Animals (IDA), the international animal protection organization that operates Hope Animal Sanctuary in Grenada, Mississippi has offered a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever shot and injured two dogs in Charleston, Mississippi.

On the morning of Tuesday, March 26, a family living in the 400 block of South Franklin in Charleston let their two dogs out in their yard to relieve themselves. Minutes later shots rang out and one of the dogs, Cieara, a medium-sized lab/collie mix, was shot through the ankle. Her companion, a Pomeranian mix named Kieara, was at first also believed to be shot, but upon further examination it appeared as though she received shrapnel wounds from the bullet that struck Cieara.

Both dogs’ injuries required medical treatment and Cieara’s injuries are so severe that she might lose her leg as a result. IDA’s Hope Animal Sanctuary is paying the veterinary bill for both dogs.

“The cold-bloodedness of this terrible crime indicates what a danger this person is to all of us,” said Doll Stanley, Director of Hope Animal Sanctuary. “Someone knows who did this, and he or she will be serving the entire community by stepping forward.” Stanley added that studies have repeatedly shown, and the FBI and other law enforcement agencies agree, that a person who commits cruelty to animals very often moves on to commit acts of violence against people, especially when the cruelty to animals goes unpunished.

IDA urges anyone with information about this brutal attack to call the organization at 662-809-4483 or 415-448-0078.
