Hundreds Join IDA to Protest Ringling Circus

[singlepic id=210 w=220 h=140 float=right]IDA thanks our supporters for making our March 20th circus protest one of the largest the East Coast has ever seen! Hundreds of activists joined IDA and other animal protection organizations to protest Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus at the Barclays Center opening night in Brooklyn, NY.

Carrying signs that read “Ballerinas Against Bullhooks” and “Circuses are Tutu Cruel,” ballerinas with the local Cynthia King Dance Studio took the day off from practice to lead chants and a march around the venue wearing tutus and chains, to let people know that their performances are voluntary, unlike animals used in circuses.

[singlepic id=209 w=220 h=140 float=left]Thanks to you, this was likely the largest circus demonstration ever on the East Coast, and shows that awareness is growing about the suffering animals endure in circuses. Energized activists, holding colorful signs and banners and wearing elephant and clown costumes, handed out thousands of leaflets and stickers to educate the public about how animals used in circuses are chained and confined to cramped cages, shipped around the country for 50 weeks a year, and cruelly trained to perform unnatural tricks.

When the circus comes to your area:
• Urge sponsors to cancel circus promotions
• Post informative comments on social media sites and ask others to share
• Organize a protest
• Write a letter to the editor of your local paper
