In early June of 2016, a woman came to In Defense of Animals’ Hope Animal Sanctuary asking for help with a dog who she claimed was “dumped” at her home.  The female dog was small, weighing only about 20 pounds and was in a crate in the back of the truck the woman was driving.  As we lowered the tailgate of the truck, the little dog peered out of the crate at us with a smile and eyes that told us she was very sweet.  When we agreed to take the little dog,  the woman pulled her out of the crate, gave her offhandedly to one of our care givers, and hurriedly drove away.

It only took a minute to see that the woman must have already known what we discovered.  This dog was very pregnant and clearly only a few days away from giving birth.

We gave Paisley a room all to herself with a soft bed and waited. .  Three days later, Paisley gave birth to four beautiful puppies!  She is a very devoted mama and the puppies,  now 8 weeks old, are all healthy.  Paisley will soon be spayed, and then she will be ready for a home of her own as will the four puppies!

Sadly, many pregnant dogs are dumped by uncaring “guardians” because they do not want to deal with puppies, and they’re too lazy or cheap to sterilize the animals in their care.

Paisley, shown in the picture and her babies are safe but many are not as lucky.  Please help us save more precious lives like Paisley and her puppies with a donation.
