Los Angeles, CA - The Animal Museum will debut its latest exhibition entitled “Crazy Cat Ladies: Celebrating Kitties and their Champions,” at its new 6,000 square foot facility in the hip Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles.

The opening preview, the first of multiple planned rotating exhibitions, will open on Saturday, October 1st, 2016 at a special soiree with celebrity guests including the “Cat Daddy” ’himself, host of Animal Planet’s “My Cat From Hell” and New York Times bestselling author, Jackson Galaxy.

What: Opening Preview

When: Saturday, October 1, 2016

Time: 5:30 – 8:30pm

Where: The Animal Museum, 421 Colyton St., LA

The “Crazy Cat Ladies” exhibition journeys into the “secret land of cat ladies” to explore popular cat lady stereotypes and share the untold story of real cat ladies working together to help community cats. Cat ladies are not really crazy! They are superheroes of the cat rescue movement, a vast underground network of people working together to save cats’ lives by humanely reducing the free-roaming cat population.

In Defense of Animals’ Sustainable Activism Director and curator Lisa Levinson said, “As a member of the cat rescue movement, I felt it was my duty to debunk popular myths about cat ladies, tell their heroic stories of selfless service, and reclaim their title as a badge of honor!”

“This soft opening will give people an opportunity to not only see our new location and preview the soon to be unveiled permanent exhibition, but experience the first of our rotating exhibits, that helps dispel the myths surrounding the urban legend of the crazy cat lady,” said, Ellen Lavinthal, Co-Chair, The Animal Museum. “We have no doubt that a museum of this caliber will attract visitors from around the globe and promote the credibility of the animal protection movement.”

The Animal Museum is the first of its kind. Its existence reflects the rapid change in our society with regard to how we treat all animals. The museum helps preserve and share the history and current concerns of the animal protection movement.

The institution also offers a full roster of world-class curated rotating exhibits, in which visitors will be engaged, educated, and inspired by the unique content. Additionally, it houses a rare collection of one-of-a kind artifacts assembled from around the world.

“Crazy Cat Ladies: Celebrating Kitties and their Champions” exhibit runs from October 2 – November 27, 2016, at The Animal Museum. Opening hours are Thursday: 2 to 8pm and Friday thru Sunday: 12 to 6pm. Admission is $4 per person. Free to museum members, military, teachers, and law enforcement.
