Justice in Action!

Earlier last month, Director Doll Stanley from IDA’s Hope Animal Sanctuary (HAS) in Grenada, Mississippi received an emergency call about a group of cats who were reportedly abandoned and starving. The caller stated that the family responsible for these animals had moved just down the road and left approximately 10 cats at their old residence without food. Additionally, the caller reported that one cat had been left inside of the mobile home for over a week without access to food or water.

After obtaining a seizure order from a local judge, Doll Stanley and HAS Operations Manager Sharon Stone, accompanied by a sheriff’s deputy, visited the property and were immediately met by 11 very hungry, very grateful cats. The cats, though semi-feral, were so in need of food that they immediately ran out from their hiding spots hoping for something to eat when they heard the sound of vehicles approaching.

HAS rescuers managed to trap 10 cats that very first day and the last remaining cat was trapped the following day. After a search of the property Doll and Sharon determined there were no cats inside of the mobile home. With all 11 felines accounted for, Hope Animal Sanctuary staff will help these animals begin the long, slow process of healing and recovery, and work to find them loving forever homes as soon as possible. The cat’s previous negligent guardians have been charged with criminal abandonment of these poor animals and are awaiting a hearing date.
