We’re thrilled about all the positive media attention our 2015 Top Ten Worst Zoos For Elephants List is getting, though we’re eager to challenge the inaccurate responses by Buttonwood Zoo and Southwick’s Zoo in Massachusetts which were published in an article by the Boston Globe called, “the elephant -or two-in the room.”

While the article is right in proclaiming, “It’s the kind of top-ten list no one wants to be on,” there are claims we feel it is important to address. As such, click here to read the letter we sent in response that the Boston Globe just published today.

Please note that our letter addresses abuse by Have Trunk, Will Travel (HTWT). This is the company that was caught on video viciously beating elephants, using an electric shock device, and striking a baby elephant over the head and pulling her trunk. These elephants were also observed chained for 12 hours a day, barely able to move back and forth, let alone walk. Last summer, Southwick’s Zoo rented elephants Rosie and Tai.
