Why are the lives of these 8 turkeys being celebrated this Thanksgiving?

To celebrate Thanksgiving at Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary in Western Maryland, instead of being eaten, these eight rescued individuals named: Perry, Willow, Tallulah, Mackenzie, Madison, Hugo, Giselle and Naomi are the guests of honor.

Like cats and dogs, turkeys are intelligent and sensitive animals who form strong social bonds and show great affection for others.

“They are so friendly and love to follow people around just like a dog and love to sit near you or even in your lap to be petted. Anyone who meets them in person will see how wonderful they are…These wonderful intelligent birds deserve our respect and compassion.” said Terry Cummings, co-founder of the Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary.

Last Saturday, in honor of a new compassionate tradition which has been hosted at Poplar Spring Animal sanctuary for the past 18 years, Perry, Willow, Tallulah, Mackenzie, Madison, Hugo, Giselle and Naomi enjoyed a lovely spread of fruit, tofu, bread crumbs, kale and cooked rice.

We are so grateful to see the lives of these individuals not only being respected but celebrated this Thanksgiving as they so rightfully deserve.
