Love-Based Animal Activism

Did you know that world-renowned author Leo Tolstoy was an ethical vegetarian who preached kindness and nonviolence? In fact, Tolstoy was the father of current love-based activism practiced by Toronto Pig Save and The Save Movement!

Tolstoy powerfully defined our duty to bear witness to animal suffering:

“When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help him” – Leo Tolstoy

Toronto Pig Save co-organizer Anita Krajnc holds weekly vigils outside slaughterhouses to bear witness to the animals who suffer there. Join us as we speak with her for a Sustainable Activism Webinar on “Bearing witness and love-based community organizing as inspired by Tolstoy” on Thursday, May 5, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. PDT (or watch the replay).
