TELEVISION NEWS ANCHOR AND SHERIFF HEAD GALA FOR ANIMALS
Fay Fredricks to Host and Sheriff Joe Apaio to Chair April 17 Gala at West World

PHOENIX
In Defense of Animals announced today that Fay Fredricks, lovely Channel 12 news anchor and accomplished horsewoman, will host their annual benefit, To the Beat of Flying Hooves and the Wag of Happy Tails 2004, to be held on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at WestWorld of Scottsdale’s Brett’s Barn.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been named honorary event chair of the gala.  Dinner with Arizona’s tough on animal abuse Sheriff and his lovely wife will be a premium live auction item at the April benefit.  All proceeds from the event will go directly to fund the care of animals rescued by IDA through the Arizona Conquistador Equine Rescue Program and the IDA Arizona Animal Rescue Fund.

Guests will begin the evening by walking a red carpet of hooves and paws to personally meet beautiful horses, tail-wagging dogs, and personality filled burros who have been rescued by In Defense of Animals and by members of IDA’s Conquistador Equine Rescue Coalition.   Silent and live auctions, a gourmet dinner, and music by Arizona’s premier country band, Rondavous, will round out the evening.  IDA volunteer and dancer extraordinaire, Tammi Wickett, will offer authentic Texas two-step lessons to guests who are game.

Host, Fay Fredricks; Channel 5 television morning news anchor, Christina Wofford; Channel 5 evening news anchor, Diana Sullivan; Sonoran News equine columnist, Peggy Dyer-Brock; and, PETS 911 Auxiliary President, Bari Mears, will head the list of community members presenting awards to outstanding champions for Arizona animals.  Among those slated to receive awards are Congressman J.D. Hayworth, co-sponsor of the Horse Slaughter Prevention Act now in the United States Congress, and Ed Boks, former director of Maricopa County Animal Care & Control and Director of NYC Animal Care & Control.

Additional information and invitations for To the Beat of Flying Hooves and the Wag of Happy Tails 2004 may be obtained by calling In Defense of Animals at 800-338-4451. Tickets are $100.00 per person.  100% of all net proceeds from the gala will go to the care of animals rescued by IDA, a 501c3 nonprofit charity.
