NEWS ANCHOR AND SHERIFF HEAD GALA FOR ANIMALS
Fay Fredricks to Host and Sheriff Joe Apaio to Chair April
17 Gala at West World
PHOENIX – In
Defense of Animals announced today that Fay Fredricks, lovely Channel
12 news anchor and accomplished horsewoman, will host their annual benefit,
To the Beat of Flying Hooves and the Wag of Happy Tails 2004, to be held
on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at WestWorld of Scottsdale’s Brett’s
Barn.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been named honorary event chair of the gala.
Dinner with Arizona’s tough on animal abuse Sheriff and his lovely
wife will be a premium live auction item at the April benefit. All
proceeds from the event will go directly to fund the care of animals rescued
by IDA through the Arizona Conquistador Equine Rescue Program and the
IDA Arizona Animal Rescue Fund.
Guests will begin the evening by walking a red carpet of hooves and paws
to personally meet beautiful horses, tail-wagging dogs, and personality
filled burros who have been rescued by In Defense of Animals and by members
of IDA’s Conquistador Equine Rescue Coalition. Silent
and live auctions, a gourmet dinner, and music by Arizona’s premier
country band, Rondavous, will round out the evening. IDA volunteer
and dancer extraordinaire, Tammi Wickett, will offer authentic Texas two-step
lessons to guests who are game.
Host, Fay Fredricks; Channel 5 television morning news anchor, Christina
Wofford; Channel 5 evening news anchor, Diana Sullivan; Sonoran News equine
columnist, Peggy Dyer-Brock; and, PETS 911 Auxiliary President, Bari Mears,
will head the list of community members presenting awards to outstanding
champions for Arizona animals. Among those slated to receive awards
are Congressman J.D. Hayworth, co-sponsor of the Horse Slaughter Prevention
Act now in the United States Congress, and Ed Boks, former director of
Maricopa County Animal Care & Control and Director of NYC Animal Care
& Control.
