Animal Rescue Groups Desperately Trying to Save 92 Horses

Calgary, AB—Concerned animal rescue groups from all over North America are stepping up to try to save 92 horses from being sent to slaughter, after they were recently discovered abandoned in an empty lot near Gibbons, Alberta, and purchased en masse by a horse dealer. The group of horses appears to be mostly mares and their foals, ranging in ages from just months to four years old.

The horses appear to be horses that were once used in the manufacturing of the drug Premarin, which is used to treat menopause in women and is made from the urine of pregnant horses. The rancher/horse purchaser is giving rescue organizations until September 4th to place these horses, or else they will most likely be auctioned off and sent to slaughter.

A charitable foundation is willing to assist approved 501 (c) (3) groups with the cost of the Coggins test (for cross-border transport) and some of the farrier and medical expenses to follow up for each rescued horse for horse groups that are willing to get 3 or more horses from this horse dealer.

For more information on how to purchase the horses, contact Barbara Sicotte. 501 (c )(3) groups willing to purchase 3 or more of these horses and offer them aide should contact Dr. Pat Haight, the Southwest Region Coordinator, for the international animal welfare group In Defense of Animals, to apply for assistance with Coggins test, farrier care and medical expenses offered.
