Richmond Animal Advocates Join Activists Around the Globe to Observe World Week for Animals in Laboratories
Richmond, Va.—A group of concerned Virginia residents and members of In Defense of Animals (IDA) are marking World Week for Animals in Laboratories (this week, April 22-28) at Virginia Commonwealth University with an outreach event to expose the plight of the millions of animals who are held captive and tested upon in the name of research around the globe. What: WWAIL event, Virginia Commonwealth University - Richmond The Richmond event is part of more than twenty events happening around the world to raise awareness of the tens of thousands of dogs, cats, rodents, primates and other animals who are confined in laboratories in the U.S. Because of the secretive nature of vivisection, the public is rarely exposed to the horrors taking place to dogs, cats, monkeys, mice, rats, and other animals in laboratories. They are poisoned, mutilated, tortured and killed for profit, greed and so-called education. WWAIL unites animal advocates around the world who attend events designed to educate the public about the scientific, moral and economic realities of animal experimentation and the humane alternatives that exist. In Defense of Animals (IDA) serves as the international coordinator for WWAIL and since 1986, has watched it grow from one day of observance to a week-long effort that spurs scores of activities across the U.S. and worldwide. WWAIL events are being held in Phoenix, Ariz.; Los Angeles and San Francisco, Calif.; Denver, Colo.; Wallingford, Conn.; Maitland, Fla.; Moscow, Idaho; Fort Wayne, Ind.; Baltimore, Md.; Boston, Mass.; St. Louis, Mo.; Portland, Ore.; Burlington, Vt.; . in the U.S., and WWAIL events are taking place internationally in Belgium, Canada, France, Luxembourg, and Switzerland. WWAIL is an annual week of events to educate the public about the scientific, moral and economic objections to animal experimentation. Activists around the world join Richmond animal advocates in organizing protests, vigils and other educational outreach events. For more information, please visit www.wwail.org. |
