IDA Adds $2,500 to Reward for Information Leading to Arrest and Conviction of Person Who Poisoned Dogs

Reward Grows to $7,500 as Organizations Join Together to Find Culprit

San Rafael, Calif.—International animal rights organization In Defense of Animals (IDA) is adding $2,500 to the reward for anyone providing information which results in the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for poisoning dogs resulting in their deaths in Marin County. Combined with the Marin Humane Society’s $5,000 reward, the San Rafael organization’s contribution pushes the reward to $7,500.

According to news reports, the three dogs died after what authorities have ruled as deliberate poisoning following a walk in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Authorities have confirmed the poisonings were intentional after analysis of the dogs’ stomach contents revealed they had ingested strychnine-laced gopher bait mixed with pet food. Area animal guardians are being warned by authorities to keep a close watch on their animal companions.

Studies by the F.B.I. and U.S. Department of Justice, among others, have proven the connection between animal abuse, child abuse and domestic violence.

“Reporting animal cruelty helps the police and the local humane society protect animals and people from intensified violence,” says Elliot M. Katz, DVM, IDA’s President and Founder.
