Adidas International Day of Action

PORTLAND, Ore. – Viva! USA and NW IDA helped host Portland's part in the International Day of Action against Adidas, Saturday, August 30.

The shoemaker is being targeted for its role in the world's largest slaughter of kangaroos to make their Predator soccer cleats. We decided one day wasn't enough, and started off the outreach two days early for Last Thursday, an outdoor art walk on Alberta Street in NE Portland.

We reached hundreds of Adidas customers who were shocked after viewing the footage of the killing methods, done unmonitored at night, many adults are shot but not killed and baby joeys are stomped on and discarded as the trash of this brutal industry. On Friday, August 29, we held a demo at Adidas USA headquarters and then held another demo on Saturday, at their outlet store on MLK and Alberta Streets.

lauren Ornelas, Viva!USA representative, presented footage of former Adidas customers speaking out against the shoe company after viewing the kangaroo killing footage. From this outreach, hundreds of former customers signed a petition, sent in postcards and called Adidas to let them know they intend to boycott their company until the killing stops.
