Date Contact In Defense of Animals | Reward to Find Brutal Dog Killer Increased by $500 In Defense of Animals Joins Effort to Find Animal Abuser Keokuk, Iowa In Defense of Animals (IDA), an animal advocacy organization based in Mill Valley, CA announced today that it is adding $500 to the reward effort for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who killed two dogs in Keokuk recently. This increases the reward to $1,500. Scooter and Cinnamon, the pair of Pekinese-dachshund mix dogs have been missing for about two weeks when they were found inside a broken refrigerator in their backyard. It appears the dogs were killed before being placed inside the refrigterator. Officials vowed this week to find out who killed Scooter and Cinnamon. Law enforcement authorities have also taken a closer look at animal abuse because of the link animal abuse and the potential to harm humans. In the late 1970s, the FBI conducted a landmark study by interviewing 36 imprisoned serial killers. Experts were searching in part for any common traits among the murderers. Thirty-six percent of those interviewed admitted to killing or abusing animals as children, according to the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit. Forty-six percent said they had tortured animals as adolescents. IDA joins the efforts of other animal protection organizations interested in stopping animal abuse cases. The evidence linking animal abuse to violence toward humans is substantial, said IDA President Elliot M. Katz, DVM. By joining this effort, we hope to bring the assailant to justice before they cause further harm to either animals or their human guardians. |
