Oppose Transfer of 18 Swaziland Elephants

Let the 3 U.S. Zoos Know How You Feel

You may have recently read our 10 Worst Zoos for Elephants List and it likely left you feeling outraged. Fortunately, there are ways you can help the suffering elephants who continue to languish in all these immensely inadequate facilities. We will be putting out at least one action alert each month for each of the worst ten zoo slots, plus the Dishonorable Mention and Hall of Shame entries.

Naturally, we will start with #1 Worst Zoo for Elephants in North America, which was a tie between three facilities due to their intended importation of 18 wild-caught elephants from Swaziland, Africa. To add insult to injury, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service just gave these 3 U.S. zoos permits to import these young elephants from Swaziland.

This “Terrible Trio” are the Dallas Zoo in Texas, Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska and Sedgwick’s County Zoo in Kansas. They need to hear from you. We must put pressure on these facilities in order to make it clear that we see through the con job they are attempting to pull on the American public. They truly put the “con” in conservation as they claim to be “saving” the 18 elephants from slaughter, and that their captive breeding and displaying of these elephants will somehow help wild populations. In reality, the purported kill and substituted “rescue” is just a ruse in order to sell and profit off of elephants. Please note, because none of the elephants will ever be returned to the wild, this is certainly not conservation.
