We knew we wanted to help the thousands of animal companions who have been displaced in Louisiana and we also knew we had friends in other rescue and shelter groups that would like to help, too. A simple Facebook post brought responses from Webster Animal Shelter in Madison and PALS Rescue in McComb, Mississippi. Another friend offered to rent a 16 foot box truck and to drive the collected items to a central distribution point in Louisiana.

As a result of these partnerships, ,a whole truckload of supplies was delivered to flooding victims in Louisiana where the need is so great. Approximately 3000 pounds of dog food, toys, fans to help keep animals cooler in the extreme heat, extension cords, crates, collars, leases, slip leads and flea prevention for both cats and dogs will benefit hundreds of displaced animals being housed in temporary shelters. Not only did we fill the 16’ box truck, but another trailer as well was filled with food and items that would not fit in the truck.  Thank you to friends of In Defense of Animals’ Hope Animal Sanctuary, Webster Animal Shelter and PALS Rescue which acting together made it all possible.

Nearly 11 years ago to the day, we were on the ground rescuing animals in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Thanks to your support, we continue to stand strong for animals affected by disasters.
