Puppies in City Shelter Needed Our Help

A call from an animal control officer (ACO) in a neighboring small town took Sharon Stone, Director of In Defense of Animals’ Hope Animal Sanctuary  to the city shelter.  The ACO explained that he had picked up four puppies that were not doing well and so he asked for our help.

When Sharon arrived, she found four tiny puppies who were very thin and obviously not feeling well.  Their little bellies were bloated from worms and their little bodies were covered in fleas.  The babies were taken to our veterinarian, Dr. Daniel Hill, in Winona, Mississippi  and were tested for parasites and given a general health checkup.  As suspected, the pups were loaded with internal parasites and one the puppies that we named Joslyn had two large gashes on her hind quarters where she had been attacked by another animal before the ACO took her and her siblings in.

All four puppies were taken to our foster  caretaker, Carol Purnell, who administered the wormer and other medications as prescribed by our veterinarian.  Within a week,  the pups were worm free and were happy and playful at last.  Within two weeks, with lots of tender loving care from Carol, Joslyn’s wounds began to heal.

Soon all four puppies will be heading to new homes and new lives with loving families that are excited to welcome them.  Pictured are Jadon and Jaci.

Please consider donating to In Defense of Animals and help us help more puppies just like these four.
