Pups in a Box – Update

Pups in a Box – Update

Last year, we brought you a touching story about three sibling puppies who were found carelessly abandoned in an empty cardboard box at the city dump in Grenada, Mississippi. Without their mother present, and without the aid of rescue workers from IDA’s Hope Animal Sanctuary, all three would have surely died of exposure, starvation, thirst, or worse.

The three orphans were taken into our sanctuary where they received veterinary care, food and water, shelter from the summer heat, and the kindness and love that they had been cruelly denied. Not surprisingly, all three of the rambunctious puppies recovered quickly and were promptly adopted.

We recently received this note from a grateful guardian about the girl they named June:

“In June last year, you posted an album of pictures of 3 little puppies that were found in a cardboard box in a dump. It happens that my husband and I adopted one of these little puppies here in Chicago. Today she is a beautiful happy dog, very sweet and clever. She understands French, (as we speak French at home), is charming with people and gets along with every other dog. Thank you so much for helping her to get to us.”

Stories and updates like this are just what we need to carry us through the everyday misfortune and cruelty that can sometimes be over whelming. Not every rescue effort has a happy ending, but the ones that do sure make our day!
