We Remember You

In 2001, In Defense of Animals members Judy Jones, Christine Husk, and Ginger Langston came to visit and volunteer at our budding  Hope Animal Sanctuary in Mississippi.  At that time, our Sanctuary Director Doll Stanley had a cruelty case near Louisville where  a woman, because of poor decisions, lost her home and family.

She left about 20 cats behind and about 10 dogs.  They destroyed the house.  It had to be torn down.  One of the dogs saved was a sweet and lovable girl with three legs named Joy.  Joy went to California with Christine and was adopted by a wonderful family.  In January of 2016, Joy passed away after living a wonderful life with her family.  Here is what her family had to say about her:

“Our little dog with a big heart, Joy, took off yesterday to play with Jasper.

Here is what I learned from Joy. I learned not to complain regardless of what life throws your way. In her case, it was losing a leg when she was but a couple of months old, and yet she lived a fun, energetic, long life. I learned (again) that having friends and people around you is better than the alternative. I learned that when you fall, you must lie still for a few minutes and then get up and look for my wonderful wife. And I learned that having a pretty face and being just doggone lucky can lead to a charmed and comfortable life. Not much I can do about the last one, but it is a good lesson to remember.”

Joy lived a wonderful life because you cared enough to donate to in Defense of Animals.

Please help us save more animals, just like Joy.
