Rescued from Abuse… But Still Fighting for Life

Heartworm in dogs is an often lethal affliction. Untreated, spaghetti-like roundworms grow and work their way through the chambers of dogs’ hearts and into the arteries of their lungs, killing the poor victims as their hearts struggle and eventually fail to meet their bodies’ need for blood. Heartworm is a serious and scary affliction, but it is preventable and entirely treatable.

For the 31 heartworm positive dogs at In Defense of Animals’ Hope Animal Sanctuary, it is not too late to save them from these relentless parasites. These suffering  dogs previously had no one to provide them with the simple preventative medication that would have staved off this killer affliction. Instead, they were  victims of abuse and neglect, and now that we’ve rescued them, they are once more fighting for their lives against a microscopic killer that has taken up residence in their fragile bodies.

Rescue was just the first step. Now the difficult and costly task remains; the task of keeping our promise to those who we have saved from abuse, of restoring these poor innocent beings to health so that they can have any hope at all of finding the love and care they deserve in new forever homes.

We have been so encouraged by the outpouring of support that these afflicted dogs have received. Your help means that they and others like them will get the long-term and costly treatment necessary to rid themselves of this deadly ailment.

If you have not already done so, please consider making a generous contribution today to help fund this costly and time consuming treatment. Your donation today will literally save a life.
