San Antonio Zoo, where Lucky, the 56-years old Asian elephant, has been confined alone, has received a female 40-year old Asian elephant, Nicole,”on loan” from Ringling Bros./Feld Entertainment. Ringling Bros. had publicized how the elephants from its circuses would be going into “retirement” but its deceit is clearly evidenced by the unsupportable action of ripping Nicole away from her previous friends and shipping her to a zoo that’s been repeatedly listed on our In Defense of Animals Ten Worst Zoos List.

Lucky should be sent to a certified sanctuary and Nicole should not be moved around like a chess piece; especially when there is no knowing whether she and Lucky will bond, let alone get along.  San Antonio Zoo and Ringling Bros./Feld are placing profits over the welfare of both elephants! We shouldn’t be surprised by their callousness, but we are.
