Who Saved Who?

Sometimes a story just touches your heart and it’s truly a case of “Who saved who?”…

At a specialized brain trauma treatment facility in Massachusetts, where men come to heal and become more independent, the newest resident was not responding to conventional therapy. The director of the center had tried for weeks to reach this man who was frustratingly unresponsive. After repeated attempts to break through to this unfortunate and uncommunicative individual, staff there noticed him frantically making stroking gestures with his right arm while being shown photos from a book. One photo in particular…a photo of a dog!

After some research by excited staff at the care facility, they learned that the man had once had a beloved animal companion, a black Labrador and that the arm movements were his way of showing himself petting his once cherished friend. 1,400 miles away at In Defense of Animals Hope Animal Sanctuary in Grenada MS sat a one of a kind rescue we had named Dally.

Dally’s story began in 2013 when he was rescued by HAS staff, wandering hungry and alone on a deserted road. When he was found, Dally was in bad shape and he required extensive long term care. We all knew then that Dally’s chances at a municipal pound or shelter were not good. He would likely be killed within weeks or even days if he was not adopted right away.

Sadly, in the months to come, every time it looked as though Dally would have a chance at a new forever home, those chances fell through. With the limited budget of the sanctuary, and facing the worst cases of abuse and neglect day after day; continued care for Dally was becoming a stretch. However, with the continued support from our generous donors we knew we would never give up on this poor dog. Saving Dally’s life would be worth every penny.

HAS rescue partners in Massachusetts recently shared Dally’s picture with the Director of the trauma facility and that’s when they knew! Dally would become the perfect therapy dog. Dally will soon be on his way to this new and unique forever home where he will be their own resident therapy dog. Dally will help brain trauma patients like the man described above heal and recover. Please help us make miracles for more friends like Dally. Your donation of just $10 or $15 will help buy a share of an animal’s rescue care. Please give what you are able and generously if you can.
