See Bouboule Today!

Bouboule is best known for being a part of In Defense of Animals – Africa’s sweetest adoption story! At a little more than two years old, this sad little orphan was rescued from the illegal pet trade and he came to live at Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue. Bouboule was more insecure than most babies his age, and despite the nurturing care of the Rescue Center staff, he needed a chimpanzee mother. He was integrated into a chimpanzee group with Jacky is its leader, and quickly adopted by our beloved Dorothy. She was one of the first chimpanzees rescued by IDA-Africa and was also insecure, resulting in a low social status within her group. However, Dorothy’s love for her adopted son helped her develop into an assertive and protective mother, who soon gained the respect of her fellow chimpanzees. Dorothy passed away in September 2008 and will always be greatly missed! Bouboule remains happily with Jacky’s group of 20.
