With its cute bear pictures and conservations claims, you might suppose that Bear Trust International is an organization with bears’ best interests at heart. But don’t be fooled. This slimy organization is actively working alongside the gun lobby to defeat protections for bears, and feed America’s children pro-hunting messages in the guise of ‘education.’ We must act now to stop this propaganda from damaging children’s natural compassion for animals.

Bear Trust International claims to be involved in “wildlife conservation.” Digging deeper reveals the organization’s true agenda.

Their founder, A. C. Smid, is a member of Safari Club International, the notorious hunting club that Cecil the lion killer, Walter Palmer, was a member of. A promotional video shows gory pictures of Smid sitting astride dead animals bearing a wide grin while a voiceover proclaims how he has “hunted numerous species all over North America.”

The organization is producing what it calls “crucial educational programs for the future decision-makers of our world, the youth of America.” Learning materials provided by the Bear Trust peddle damaging messages using terms like “sustainable mortality,” and task students with determining a number of animals to be hunted and killed by humans.

One teaching pack even asks students to use data to conclude that federal protection for grizzly bears under the Endangered Species Act should be removed!
