Street Dogs of the World

 

Call them street dogs, stray dogs or free-roaming dogs, the dogs that live their lives on the streets number in the millions. While many western countries, such as the United States, work to keep stray dogs off the streets, many other countries throughout the world have dog populations that are part of the landscape. They lounge on the sidewalks, make their daily rounds and choose their own canine and human friends.

While managing street dog populations to ensure healthy animals and people is a large issue throughout the world, the New York Times recently called on the humans of the world to share stories of the street dogs in their life. Some are treated better than others, some meet up with humans for walks or to act as a tour guide, some are cultured, and some, like Guasa pictured above, are living the beach bum life.
