Families with dog and cat companions throughout Vietnam have to remain vigilant at all times. Thieves, usually on motorbike, are known to be operating throughout the country poisoning, electrocuting and stealing both stray and companion dogs and cats to sell for the dog and cat meat trade.

Most recently, a group of such thieves enlisted the help of a taxi to transport sixteen stolen dogs. All were already dead by the time they were discovered, and all were to be sold for their flesh.

While we commend the park rangers who pulled over the taxi and apprehended the suspect, such despicable acts will continue until the dog and cat meat trade is officially banned and the penalties for harming animals outweighs the profit to be made from their flesh.
